Michael W. Howard, is working to transform electric power for the twenty-first century, as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
Dr. Howard’s career encompasses research and technical consulting, along with operations, finance, product development, and strategic planning. He brings to EPRI’s work and mission a whole-business perspective and problem-solving approach.
He joined EPRI in 1999 as CEO and President of its wholly owned subsidiary, the Power Electronics Application Center (PEAC), and continued to serve in that role when PEAC merged with two other companies to create EPRI Solutions, Inc. In 2006, he joined EPRI as Senior Vice President of Research and Development, overseeing annual research spending of more than $350 million. He was named EPRI’s President and CEO in 2010.
Before joining EPRI in 1999, Howard was president of Beta Development Corp. (BDC), a venture capital firm providing equity investments in technology-based companies. Prior to this he co-founded and led Scientific Imaging Solutions, which provided advanced image analysis systems to the life sciences industry.
Howard began his career in 1980, and spent most of the, 80s, with Westinghouse Electric Corporation as an applications engineer for the fossil and nuclear digital control systems group.
